Meet Our Board of Directors

Our board of directors at Hands of Hope -Sickle Cell Awareness, Foundation Inc.,  is comprised of a group of dedicated, compassionate , and professional individuals who all reside in Tampa, Florida.

Founder-President Cecelia “Cece” Mitchell 



Cecelia is a mother of two children and a grandmother of three. She is a native of Tampa, who graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1976. She has been a staff assistant at the University of South Florida since 1984. She is a member of the Spring of Life Church Of God in Christ.

Lillie Ashley

Lillie is the mother of one daughter. She is a native of New York City and have lived in Tampa, FL since 1996. She graduated from NYU (New York University) with a Master of Social Work degree. She currently work for Children’s Medical Services and provide social services support to the Children’s Medical Services pediatric Sickle Cell Clinic. She is a member of Christ Community Church.

Gloria Elliott, RN BSN

Gloria is a widow, mother of one daughter and a member of Thirty Fourth Street Church of God. She is a native of Tampa, a graduate of H.W. Blake Sr. High School, a graduate of Tuskegee Institute School of Nursing, Tuskegee and she did her post-graduate studies at Saint Louis University, St. Louis.


She retired in 2014 after spending 28 years with Tampa Family Health Centers, Inc. Gloria served in several capacities including, director of nursing, interim CEO and director of community relations for Tampa Family Health Centers Inc. Also, she is the former Lieutenant Commander of the U.S. Public Health Corp.

Awards:  Gloria was awarded The Jessie Trice Heroes Award in September 2014 by the State of Florida Health Choice Network for outstanding community service and advocate for medically underserved and minority populations in Hillsborough County and the State of Floreard


Theresa F. Girard, RPh.

Theresa is the mother of one child and a registered pharmacist with the state of Florida. She was born in Gainesville, FL and raised in rural Ocala, FL She graduated from North Marion High School in 1991. She then went on to attend The University of Florida and obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy. After graduating from the University of Florida,  in 1996 she relocated to the Tampa Bay area.


Theresa worked for Walgreens as a Staff Pharmacist from 1996 to 1998 and as a Pharmacy Manager 1998 to 2006. She was forced into early retirement in 2006 after several serious bouts with sickle cell disease, including a major debilitating stroke in 2007.


Theresa currently resides in Seffner, FL and daily fights the good fight of faith being “Sickle Cell Warrior Strong."

 

                                                                                                  Dale W. Savage

 Dale W. Savage also known as “Wilbert”, he is married Monica Savage. Dale was born o February 11, 1956, to Anna Coffee and CJ Knight.  He is the father of six children, and the grandfather of 19 grandchildren.


He graduated from Sarasota - Riverview High School, in 1975.  He was a member of the football and basketball team.  He attended Manatee Junior College in 1976.After college, he started working at the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office as a Detention Deputy.  Upon moving to Tampa, he started working at WT Edwards Juvenile Detention Center from 1982 through 1988.  He has been working at the Hillsborough County Real Estate Facilities Maintenance since 1988. He will be looking forward to retiring from there in 2017. 


He and his wife own their own home based business with Paycation Travel where they are certified travel agents.  They sell travel and the opportunity to for people to own their own home based travel agency through Paycation.

                                                                                            Monica C. Savage  

Monica C. Savage, was born October 11, 1964, to Betholine Jones Woolford and Anthony M. Woolford.  She is the mother of six children and the grandmother of 19 grandchildren.  She was born and raised in Maryland.  She has lived in the Tampa Bay area for over twenty years. 

She graduated from North Dorchester High School, Maryland in 1982.  She graduated from Goldey Beacom College with an Associate in Science Degree in Legal Secretarial Studies in 1984.


In 1985 she joined the United States Air Force where she was a boom operator from 1985 through 1986.

She has been working as a legal assistant at the Law Offices of John W. Gardner, P.A., since 1995.

She and her husband Dale own their own home based business with Paycation Travel.  They are certified travel agents.  They sell travel and they sell the opportunity to own your own home based travel agency through Paycation Travel.
